About David R. Burtt

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Dave brings a certain blue-collar mentality to his technology-centric practice. And while he recently spent three rainy years in Portland while his wife polished off her graduate studies, his family now happily calls Northern California home.

Dave understands that clients generally view lawyers as a nuisance, but—given the focus of his practice—a sometimes necessary evil to help remove the cloud of uncertainty that often accompanies the mobile executive and innovation. He detests losing, and defines his professional success not by some artificial profits-per-partner calculation but rather by whether he’s helped his clients efficiently achieve their goals.

Prior to founding Mobility Legal, Dave was a partner with both Ongaro Burtt & Louderback LLP and Perkins Coie LLP and an associate with WSGR. With more than a decade of big firm experience under his belt—and with technological advances enabling an outrageously streamlined business model—Dave opened his own firm in 2013 with offices by the water (Jack London Square/Oakland) and in the mountains (Truckee). Wasting less time on administration not only frees up more time to practice law, but allows Dave to now dedicate the appropriate amount of time to indoctrinating his young kids in the splendors of all things black and gold.
